“FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST. THANK GOD ALMIGHTY, WE ARE FREE AT LAST.”
These stirring words Dr. King proclaimed at the end of his “I Have A Dream” speech in August of 1963 express what I am feeling today as a results of yesterday’s mid-term elections.
Our nation and, indeed, the entire world, is free of Donald Trump who is for all practical purposes politically dead.
He is finished. This was his last election and he has nowhere to go from here except into the sunset, or perhaps Hell.
The voice of the American people not only resounded in an astounding and historic victory for Democrats, but spoke of a stunning rejection of all things Trump.
We, the People, rejected his incompetence, his moral depravity, his corruption, his politics of revenge, the endless chaos he foments daily, his total disregard for the dignity of the office he holds, the degree of embarrassment he has caused our nation around the world.
Most of all, the results of the mid-terms represent an unequivocal statement by all genuinely patriotic Americans that we will not long stand for having a president who doesn’t believe in democracy and the rule of law on which its future depends.
But not only is Trump politically dead, so is his MAGA Republican Party. His most ardent defenders in the House and Senate are gone. Fix News viewership is in significant decline, as is CBS news and especially its former signature news program 60 Minutes.
We, the People, said last night that we are done with divisive politics and pseudo-patriots who pretend to love their country when in fact they betray what it stands for.
Because Trump’s narcissistic egoism will not allow him to accept responsibility for the decisive defeat of Republicans yesterday, and because his ubiquitous incompetence will lead him to continue making foolish and even dangerous decisions, we will not likely escape further damage that he will do to the country and the world in the coming months.
But politically he is dead because we, the People, by re-establishing the rightful role of the House and Senate as the third branch of our government, have declared that who we are and what we believe and believe in will determine the future of our country, not Trump.
There is so much more to be said and enormous work to be done for the nation to regain its political and spiritual balance after these awful days under Trump, but the news of this day is that once again we have defeated tyranny and sinister forces from within that would tear us apart.
