I cannot wait for the glorious day to come when Donald Trump will not be President, a day I am hoping will come sooner rather than later.
But it is coming.
And when it does the truth about the full extent of Trump’s corruption and collusion with the Russians will come out. I believe it will shake the nation when we find out just how close we came to losing our democracy.
But we already know something about him that is as bad as that. It is this: The President of the United States is guilty of child abuse.
It is sobering to have to say that, but I cannot find any reason to think it is not true.
Under any definition of child abuse, deliberately taking children away from their parents qualifies, and the person guilty of it is none other than the man who is President.
Think about the psychological, social, and even physical damage this man has been doing to innocent children, even infants.
Is it any surprise that according to the latest Gallop Poll less than 50% of the nation feels proud to be Americans. How could anyone be proud when we have a man who abuses children sitting in the Oval Office?
The thought of it causes me volcanic cognitive dissonance. My mind simply cannot assimilate Trump and his advisors entertaining such a thing.
Did no one say, “Wait a minute. We can’t do that. We can’t inflict pain and suffering on innocent children and live with ourselves. It is not right under any circumstances or for any reason”?
Apparently not.
But get this, 27% of all adult Americans supported the policy, including an astounding 54% of all Republicans.
Even as I write this it all seems surreal, but, of course, it is as real as it is unimaginable, and that should make all of us feel sick to our stomach.
Indeed, the next time you talk to someone who is a Trump supporter, ask them at what point in their lives did they decide that child abuse was okay. Ask them if they were on a jury deciding the fate of a father who brutally abused his son in order to show his other children what would happen to them if they disobeyed the rules, would they acquit him or send him to jail?
Who knows what answer they would give, but it doesn’t really matter because anyone who needs more than a second to condemn abusing children under any circumstances has nothing to say worth hearing.
Sadly, Trump is getting away with being a child abuser because there is no simple or direct way to hold him accountable.
But that doesn’t keep me from hoping that when he is out of office the International Criminal Court will charge him with crimes against humanity.
I will be the first to sign up to testify against him.
“Whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive… it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government…”
Trumps form of governing IS destructive! As the Declaration of Independence directs us (quote above) we shall abolish Trump’s governing.
Yes, we will.
“The death of one person is a terrible tragedy. The death of one million is a statistic.” Paraphrase of a statement by Josef Stalin
Which is why I fear the children being abused will get lost in the politics surrounding their abuse.
David Brooks of NYT often comments about Trumps absence of empathy. I would agree. He just seems to be a mean-spirited, callous individual. And much of the Republican Party simply follow his lead. No defense for abusing children.
Not defense at all, Wilbur. None. Can’t believe anyone can support someone who abuses a child, must less more than 2000.
