I have tried not to be partisan to the extreme since I started this Blog over a year ago. More than once I have criticized Democrats in general and President Obama in particular (review the Archives if you don’t believe me). But this extortion by House Republicans is just too much. Until they open our government and raise the debt limit, they deserve nothing but contempt.
This is their shutdown, no one else. The blame is not on President Obama or Harry Reid. It is squarely on the shoulders of John Boehner. If you think otherwise, you are simply misinformed because you listen to “Fix News and others like them, or you just don’t care about the truth.
Honest politicians don’t use continuing resolutions to fund the government or raising the debt limit so we pay the bills we have already incurred as a way to change existing laws. All laws are subject to change or replacement, but NOT this way. Period!
We should also remember that the shutdown is a continuation of what Republicans have been doing since they gained control of the House. The list of bills they once supported but now reject – included healthcare reform – is very long. And the reason is no secret. Whatever this president proposes, Republicans oppose. He could propose that John McCain serve out the remainder of his presidency and Republicans would oppose it because Obama proposed it. That’s how irrational and unreasonable they are.
The President is right about this. Open the government and raise the debt ceiling and then negotiations can begin. He will probably give away more than I want him to, and I will openly criticize him when he does, as I have done in the past. But on this one he is exactly right. For the sake of the country’s future he must not waver.
Hope your message is getting out to many Americans. To those who are fooled by the media, those who don’t want to listen, but need to and those who are just plain followers of those disdained “talking heads” who are not self thinkers to sort out the truth! I remember one of your threads on “civility,” which is still applicable in this tumultuous time! Lead on. 🙂 !!
You are right again!!
Virginia, I’m doing my best. I stand by what I wrote about civility, but to be honest I am finding it a difficult challenge under the circumstances. Thanks for the encouragement.
