The shutdown is too important not to discuss it again…and again…and again.
One thing is clear. The news media is proving to be its usual inept self in this mess. and the public needs to see what they are doing.
The government shutdown is NOT a “standoff.” It’s NOT a “stalemate.” It’s NOT an impasse. It’s NOT a waiting game to see who blinks first.
This shutdown is an unconstitutional power grab by the Republicans who refuse to accept the re-election of Barak Obama and now want to subvert our nation’s democratic process to undo a law he sponsored that was passed by the Congress and determined by the Supreme Court to be constitutional. Let’s be clear. This is a constitutional crisis that will determine the future of our government.
Here’s why I say this. If the Republicans win, then next year they will be able to do the same thing with Medicare or Medicaid or Social Security they are doing with Obamacare. In other words, to force changes they want such as, say, privatizing Social Security, they will be able to shut down the government until they get their way. “We will get what we want one way or another” is now the Tea Party mantra.
This is why any journalist or news reporter who suggests the two sides need to negotiate a compromise is incompetent and should be fired. This is not a crisis that needs a compromise. It needs to be defeated. Anyone who cannot understand the threat to our form of government the Republicans are posing has no business reporting on it.
WELL said!!!! Go Get’em Tiger.
I am in 100% sync with your thinking on this one.
Amen!! Thanks for the facts!! How can Americans buy into allowing their elected officials to play these games with no consequences affecting them? Total shame of responsibility. The media seems to be having a good ole frenzy time with twisting the facts into whatever they want to spin while our government implodes!! Just imagine when the debt ceiling issue arrives what will happen!!
Americans….wake up!!!!
I also agree with you 100%.
I’ve never been to the USA, but I have a book by William Shirer called “The collapse of the Third Republic”. It’s about France in the 1930s, its perpetual political crises (an average of a change of government every half-year) and the fall of liberty in that country. Shirer wrote that those who held power in France at that time were more concerned about their own futures, than the future of their own country. In the terrible disaster of the German invasion of May to June 1940, the French paid a terrible price. The lessons are there for all to see.
History has been described as: “…the harshest of schoolmistresses, because she sets her tests first and teaches her lessons afterwards”. Yes, on both sides of the pond, not excluding my own country, History is warning us again…
Over half of Americans don’t know that the Affordable Health Care Act and “Obamacare”,are one and the same program. With such pig ignorant voters it’s no wonder the Koch brothers are smiling.
Unfortunately, I think Nigel’s point is correct.
Being from Netherlands, I too have to agree with Nigel’s point.

I must ask Virginia just what facts did you learn from this man’s lies anyway? The Republicans did not shut the government down as he and the news people want you to think … if I remember right, it was Sen. Reid who will not let the House of Senators vote on the bill that that House of Representatives sent them! My question is … who does Senator Reid think he is to hold up any bill to be voted on, especially this important one. Plus 3/4 of the American people did NOT want Obamacare and tried to tell the stupid government at that time but they did not listen because they thought someone would get their act together way before now and try to do something about it!!!!! The Supreme Court is a joke and I cannot believe Robertson could let this law go on to the people!!!! Wake up people and look on both sides of this story and then do your judging on the government. Stop believing in the people and the news people who talk and/or write the way you want to believe for once in your lifetime!
You sound like a “Fix” News viewer. For you to blame Harry Reid for not giving in to Republican extortion is typical of Tea Party members. Obamacare IS the law of the land. If you want to change, use the democratic process the Constitution gives you, but don’t try to blackmail the government into it. Besides that, you are going to be among those who are going to be disappointed when people find out how good Obamacare is. Your alternative is the current system that denies people coverage for pre-existing conditions, throws people off when they get sick, and lets 45 thousand people to die every year for lack of healthcare access. If this is your thinking, then I hope everything I wrote makes you angry and mad.
