Last week I wrote about Jon Mecham’s comment that this year’s election is about mature citizenship.
I want to remind all the Democrats and independents who are screaming the sky is falling after last night’s debate that the election is still about that.
So get a grip.
Biden did poorly, but that has nothing to do with his ability to govern. Trump lied every time he opened his mouth, and that has everything to do with his ability to govern.
If you think Biden should be replaced, you mistakenly believe this election is between Biden and Trump.
You’re wrong. A mature voter understands that this election is about one thing and one thing only – the Constitution.
I would go so far as to say that this election is about whether or not we, the American people today, are willing to ratify the Constitution all over again.
A vote for Joe Biden is a YES vote. A vote for Donald Trump is a NO vote.
There is nothing wrong with President Biden’s mental abilities. To be slow in answering questions, or hesitating or pausing because you stutter, doesn’t have anything to do with governing.
Biden answered virtually every question he was asked. Trump did not answer any of them. Not one.
There’s a reason for that. It’s because Trump doesn’t have any answers. He knows nothing about governing. He want to run things, be the boss, have loyal subjects who bow when he enters the room. He has no policies beyond his wild impulses that hurt the nation while benefiting him financially.
How can any one forget that he tried to overturn the last election? He proved he has no respect for the rule of law because multiple times he lost court cases he filed that said the election was rigged, yet he still tried to block the transition of power.
What else does anyone need to understand that the man is about power, not governing. This election is about having a president who will follow the Constitution and honor his oath of office.
A vote for Trump is the modern-day equivalent of voting against the ratification of the Constitution.
Were he to win, we would have a president free to do whatever he wanted to do without worry about the Constitution because he would know the nation had rejected it.
Democracy doesn’t need Democrats talking about how bad Biden did in the debate or, worse, that he should drop out of the race or be replaced.
It needs us to show mature citizenship, to understand that as bad as Biden did, Trump did even worse.
He offered no reason for anyone to vote for him. None. He did nothing but sling general declarations without a single fact or specific example to support his claims. And he lied and lied and lied.
It all came down to Trump saying, “Biden is the worst president in our history. I was the best, and I alone can save the nation again.”
That was it, and people are whining because Joe Biden was off his game? Really?
Why liberals are so mercurial, soft, and always ready to jump ship when trouble comes is an enigma to me.
But I do know the nation needs more from us, better from us. It needs us to see through the Trump show to the truth that this is our moment to ensure a majority of voters re-ratify the Constitution.
That is what the election is about and nothing more, and that is the only take-away from last night’s election worth talking about.
